Professionals Needed for Sudden Child Death Research Survey
Research team at the University of Southampton seeks professionals to share experiences of sudden and unexpected child death
A research team at the School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences, University of Southampton is inviting professionals to take part in a national survey exploring experiences of sudden and unexpected child death.
The survey is for professionals who have worked with sudden and unexpected death in children within the past five years, covering experiences from the point of collapse through to investigations and the care and support provided to families afterwards.

Why take part?
Sudden and unexpected child death can be an incredibly challenging experience for everyone involved. This research aims to better understand not only the experiences and needs of bereaved families, but also the impact on the professionals who support them.
The survey takes approximately 40 minutes to complete and includes questions about the psychological and other impacts that experiencing sudden and unexpected child death can have on professionals.
By sharing your experience, you can contribute to research that aims to help improve the training and support available to professionals working in these circumstances.
Who can take part?
The survey is open to professionals who have worked with sudden and unexpected death in children during the past five years.
If you meet the criteria, the research team would like to hear about your experiences.
About the study
The survey forms part of the study ‘Investigating experiences, needs and outcomes of bereaved families and professionals after sudden child death.’
The research is being conducted by the School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences, University of Southampton and is funded by the NIHR Health and Social Care Delivery Research Programme. The study has ethical approval (Ethics/ERGO no: 104123).
