CJD is one of a group of rare and invariably fatal diseases called prion diseases, it affects 1 – 2 people per million of the population per year. The lifetime risk of CJD is around 1 in 5,000.

The CJD Support Network was set up in 1995 by relatives of people who have died with CJD, and is the only UK charity dedicated to the disease. Our mission is to help ensure that appropriate practical and emotional support is available for all strains of CJD and prion diseases in the UK, and those at increased risk.
